Employment lawyers are reporting an increase in the number of older Australians suffering from age-related discrimination in the workplace.
Carly Stebbing, the founder of law firm Resolution123, has told Sky News the situation is ‘endemic’, with the prospect of finding work at the same pay and status level ‘virtually impossible’ at or post-retirement age.
Ms Stebbing says employers are continuing the expectation that employees should depart the workplace at retirement age.
She argues it’s inappropriate to ask older workers about their retirement plans, comparing it to asking women about their plans to have children.
